Understanding Verified Athletic Measurements

Educational information only. This article does not guarantee recruiting outcomes and is not legal, medical, financial, eligibility or professional advice.

Measurement source and method determine how useful a number is.

Key considerations

  • Label athlete-reported values clearly.
  • Do not treat hand and electronic timing as interchangeable.
  • Record when and where every result occurred.
  • Identify who verified each measurement.
  • Use progress over time, not one isolated number.

Questions to ask before you commit

Who operates the opportunity? Is the venue confirmed? What will the athlete actually receive? What happens if travel, weather, staffing or coach attendance changes? What supervision, medical and emergency procedures are in place? Keep written records and independently verify important claims.

Keep the decision athlete-centered

Consider development value, health, academics, family budget and realistic fit together. A camp, showcase, trainer or marketing opportunity should never be treated as a guaranteed path to recruitment, ranking, an offer or a scholarship.
